Garrett Leight’s Venice Beach Guide

Garrett Leight’s Venice Beach Guide

When we hear ‘Garrett Leight’, we think of a couple of things—top-notch eyewear and classic California style.

A brand born in the sunny streets of Venice Beach, with all their frames still designed in Downtown LA today, GLCO really nails that West Coast feeling. Each of Garrett Leight’s frames even has a little shoutout to Venice with the VC/CA 90291 stamp, a nod to where it all began.

This city guide, written exclusively for us by none other than Garrett Leight himself, portrays a world so unrecognisable from our rainy Manchester; that easy, breezy, laid-back lifestyle is so easy to envy. With recommendations just as considered as his eyewear, this one is definitely worth a read—thanks to Garrett for offering us a special glimpse into his ideal weekend in Venice, LA.

Garrett Leight’s guide to living your fullest life in Venice, LA

Venice Beach isn’t just a place—it’s a feeling. A lifestyle. The perfect balance of laid-back and electric, where the sun melts into the Pacific, and the day’s biggest decision is whether you’re in the mood for tacos, a burger, or something a little more refined. No matter what, there’s always room for an ice-cold beer.

Start With Tacos and Ceviche at La Isla Bonita

Nothing says Venice like a meal straight from a legendary taco truck. La Isla Bonita has been posted up on Rose and 4th for as long as I can remember, slinging some of the best carnitas and asada tacos and ceviche you’ll find anywhere. Get the ceviche tostada—it’s bright, fresh, and has just the right amount of heat. Then grab an asada taco for good measure. Find a sunny spot to sit, let the flavors hit, and watch the eclectic mix of locals roll by.

Dinner at RVR

By now, you’re dialled into the Venice rhythm, and RVR is where you take it up a notch. Tucked away behind an unassuming facade, it’s a place that feels effortless yet intentional, much like Venice itself. Order the crispy chicken karage to start, then let the night guide your next move—definitely add some handrolls and, my favorite, the wagyu. Pair it with a glass of natural wine and let the conversation stretch into the night.

A Late-Night Burger From The Win-Dow

If something more casual strikes your fancy, The Win-Dow at American Beauty is a no-brainer—crispy-edged, smashed just right, and layered with classic flavors. It’s the kind of burger you crave, standing outside, soaking in the hum of the neighborhood. Get fries if you have the stamina and the lemonade is a perfect thirst quencher, but the burger is non-negotiable.

Ice-Cold Beers and Pool at Hinano Cafe

Hinano is where you end up when you don’t want the night to end. A Venice institution, known for its sawdust-covered floors, coldest beers in town, and if you need, a griddled cheeseburger that rivals just about anything. Order a pitcher, grab a cue, and test your luck at the pool table. The walls are covered in history, and the regulars always have a story. It’s a true Venice classic, the kind of place that still holds onto the old-school grit.

Morning Reset: A Walk on the Venice Pier

After a night well spent, there’s no better way to reset than a morning stroll on the Venice Pier. The surfers are out, chasing the morning swell, and the ocean stretches wide in every direction. This is Venice at its purest—the sound of waves, the smell of salt in the air, and the feeling that, whatever today holds, it’s going to be good.

Shopping on the Venice Beach Boardwalk and Abbot Kinney

No trip to Venice is complete without a little retail therapy. The Boardwalk is a scene all its own, with vintage tees, handmade jewelry, and street art that feels like a living, breathing piece of the city. Then there’s Abbot Kinney, where you’ll find everything from high-end sneakers to perfectly worn-in denim. Pop into a few shops, grab an espresso, and let the day unfold—Venice always has a way of leading you exactly where you’re meant to be.

The Venice State of Mind

Venice isn’t about rushing. It’s about moving at the right pace, knowing where to eat, where to drink, and when to just sit back and watch it all happen. The best days here aren’t overplanned—they’re felt, experienced, and, most importantly, never forced. That’s the Venice way.
