When it came to doing our first international Seen guide (following the success of our very own guide to Manchester), theo were at the top of our list.
theo are a brand we've stocked since the early days. It’s a family-owned business, and our whole team has built a great relationship with the Somers family over the years. So, we knew we could trust Mik, the eldest of the Somers boys, to show us all the perfect Saturday in theo’s home city of Antwerp, Belgium.
It's a place we’d always recommend to anyone looking for a nice city break, and this guide will easily make you look like you've done hours of research to anyone that’s exploring with you. Just take your stylish theo eyewear and you're set!
A big thank you to Mik at theo for this fantastic guide—we hope you all enjoy giving it a read.
First stop: Coffee at Andy Roasters
Let’s go for a lazy Saturday in Antwerp. A day like a local living in the city. Alone, as a couple, or with kids.
Waking up with Antwerp’s finest, Andy Roasters. There's no better place if you fancy the best coffee, right in the middle of town. You might not appreciate the location at first sight but it gives you an instant feel of the speed of Antwerp. A mix of pedestrians, runners, normal bikes, electric bikes, cargo bikes, race bikes and some cars. The perfect orientation of the terrace makes it just the finishing touch. Let the sun shine on your perfect cappuccino and in your heart. Grab a croissant or a pain au chocolat and you are ready for the day.
Next up: Bike over to Middelheim
Speaking of bikes, Antwerp is the city to discover by bike. Do make sure to get yourself a Velo - rental bikes you can pick and drop at numerous stations all over the city. It’ll make your visit way more convenient.
As it’s too early to shop, let’s take your Velo to Middelheim Park. Without doubt, this is the most beautiful and interesting Park-Museum around Antwerp. Filled with art, it makes your morning walk even more beautiful.
Third stop: Grab a bite at Café Kamiel and shop at Vier
When your inner artist is satisfied, grab a bike to ride back towards Antwerp. You might be ready for an easy lunch or drink at Café Kamiel. A super nice local café serving Belgian finest beers amid Antwerp’s most beautiful residential neighbourhood next to the city centre.
Make sure to be back in the city to discover what Vier has to offer, a cool lifestyle store on a beautiful location. You might consider having a quick glass of natural wine before dinner.
Last up: Belgian cuisine at Life Is Art
Dinner is served at Life Is Art. Not too fancy, not too easy - just Belgian food done the right way, in a Belgian atmosphere.
And that's a beautiful Saturday in Antwerp, secured!
We also wanted to make one last recommendation for KMSKA, which is a great place to visit on a Sunday when stores are usually closed. A prestigious building they have been working on for over 10 years, offering the most interesting mix of art you have ever seen - from Rubens to Dali to all the modern masters. Book yourself a guided tour. Even for non-museum fans, it's a perfect Sunday activity.
We hope you enjoyed theo's city guide to Antwerp. Don't forget, you can browse a selection of our theo range online here, and shop them at our Police Street store in Manchester. Pop by for a chat 'n browse, or book an eye test or styling appointment here.
