Introducing... VAVA

Introducing... VAVA

Founded in 2014 by avant garde designer Pedro da Silva, VAVA is a Portuguese eyewear brand that terms like ‘forward thinking’ and ‘progressive’ were practically invented for. Imagine a futuristic utopia where humanity, technology and nature all co-exist in wondrous harmony, and chances are everyone would by striding around in a pair of VAVA glasses.

Inspired by Bauhaus design, classic sci-fi and Detroit techno (along with about 500 other great reference points), VAVA frames are true masterclasses in minimalism—taking basic, stripped down shapes and transforming them into something entirely new.

But there’s more to VAVA than just sharp aesthetics—each pair of their frames is made in Italy, either from eco-friendly Mazzuchelli cellulose acetate or corrosion-resistant aluminium, with lenses from the world-renowned Barberini factory. With a dedication to creating the most earth-friendly products possible, the brand strives for maximum efficiency and minimum environmental impact.

For our first delivery, we’ve got a mix of optical frames and sunglasses from two of the brand’s main collections… Black Label and White Label. Continuing the brand’s sci-fi theme, the Black Label imagines a future where the underground rises up using technology to oppose an authoritarian regime. It’s pretty heady stuff, but whilst we’re not 100% sure we follow what the story is here, one thing we do know is that the frames look ace—with angular acetate delights like the BL0030 and the BL0036 frames serving as perfect examples of future-ready eyewear that’ll work right now.

And don’t be fooled by the name… the Black Label designs are surprisingly colourful. If you’re a fan of Kuboraum’s bold forays into technicolor acetate, you will appreciate the bright orange BL0044 and the crystal blue BL0040 frames.

The White Label collection is about technology and machines and stuff (we think?)… resulting in some seriously striking frames. Could the WL0039 frames be the roundest glasses ever made? Quite possibly. We're also big fans of the rectangular WL0051 wonders here at Seen HQ.

It’s not hyperbole to say that VAVA’s designs are like nothing we’ve seen before. Conceptual, yet still wearable, these are guaranteed to turn heads. We’re proud to be a stockist.
