Jacques Marie Mage Space Odyssey

2001 ‘Til Infinity

The effect that Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 sci-fi magnum opus 2001: A Space Odyssey has had on culture is well documented. From Douglas Trumbull’s groundbreaking special effects to the potent use of classical music, the film’s influence can still be felt on screen—and far beyond—today.

Considering its strong visual style, it’s maybe not a surprise to learn that Jacques Marie Mage founder Jerome Mage is a big fan—and has created a full range dedicated to the film—including these majestic new Heywood frames we’ve just received.

Inspired by the central character Dr Heywood Floyd, the glasses have the same dignified flavour as the man they’re named after, with a classic shape that’ll work whether it’s 1968, 2001 or 3001.

Made in Japan from 10mm cured cellulose acetate, with exposed wire-core details, sterling silver arrowhead pins and the foil stamped signature of Stanley Kubrick, these are exactly the sunglasses we’d wear if we finally got that promotion at the National Council of Astronautics.

On the other end of the sci-fi spectrum, you’ll find the Jacques Marie Mage 2001 Sun frames. Guaranteed to turn heads even in zero gravity conditions, these wide-angle wraparounds are a direct nod to the beyond-iconic helmets worn by the astronauts on Discovery One.

Made in Italy with custom silver hinges and perhaps the largest lenses we’ve ever stocked, the 2001 frames are true maximalist masterpieces.

And as you’d expect from JMM, the packaging is next level too—both frames come in a custom monograph box-set which includes an octagonal eyewear case as well as a custom-made stainless steel screwdriver and a cleaning cloth. HAL would approve.
